Summer Internships

Most of the agencies of the Intelligence Community (IC) offer summer internships for college students. Below is a quick summary of some of these opportunities. We encourage students to apply for these internships as described on each organization’s website. Application deadlines are in the autumn internships the following summer. The security clearance process for interns is the same as for a regular permanent employee and requires that the applicant be a U.S. citizen. Those with dual citizenship cannot be granted clearances. In addition, most agencies will not grant a clearance to an applicant with immediate family members who are not citizens. (Also note that if an IC Scholar is planning to study or travel abroad, it might be better planned for after an internship if at all possible for clearance processing timelines.)
